Bad Weather Procedures
School Closings, Late Starts or Early Dismissal.

With winter weather conditions facing us for the next few months, a primary concern will be safe driving conditions for transporting students. With respect and appreciation for the dilemma parents have when weather impacts school attendance times, we must on some occasions make difficult decisions based on the imperfect science of predicting and judging weather. We ask that, except in an emergency, families please not call the school district office because we will need our phone lines open for administrative use.

The decision to conduct or close school begins:
1. Transportation will start checking road conditions at 3:15AM

• Check road conditions in all parts of the district.
• Check both gravel and tar roads.
• Check for visibility, traction, and snowfall amounts.
• Check weather forecast and radar for future problems with weather.

2. If necessary call Superintendent or Operations Director if Superintendent is unavailable by 4:55AM with a recommendation.

• Recommend late start or cancellation.

3. Superintendent/Operations Director will begin the closing/late start process.

• If closing or late start, initiate media notification
• Contact Administrators to begin phone tree notification of staff
• Transportation will notify the following people
• Mechanic
• Secretary
• MRVSEC
• St. Wenceslaus
• Holy Cross
• Initiate phone tree for Bus drivers/other transportation staff.

Employees and parents are encouraged to listen to radio or watch the TV for school delays or cancellations. A school close or early dismissal will automatically cancel all athletics, student activities and Community Ed classes.

Parents can sign up for automatic notification of cancellation in games and practices by going to www.missotaconference.org, select New Prague and then "notify me". Call 952-758-1734 for any changes in Community Ed. Class Schedules.
