New Prague School Board makes decision on Emergency closing make-up days. The past few weeks have been challenging due to the severely cold weather and school closings. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we have had to make difficult decisions with safety of our students in mind. At an emergency school board meeting held today, Friday, January 31st, the New Prague School Board voted in favor of beginning to make up school days lost by the extreme winter cold this month. The January 27th school closure due to extreme cold will be made up by both students and staff on Monday, February 17th (Presidents Day). If an additional emergency closing occurs over the next month, Friday, March 7th (End of Trimester 2) has been designated as a make-up date where staff and students would also report to school. The school board decided to propose March 7th as a potential make-up date to be proactive in the event another school closure would occur in the next month. This allows for our staff and district families to prepare ahead of time in case of an emergency closing. Mother Nature has forced school districts alike to act fast to ensure that student learning is not negatively impacted by the weather. The district recognizes that some families may have already made plans or scheduled college visits for February 17th and students will be given an excused absence on that day. I would like to thank our families for their flexibility and patience during this difficult month of January. We can only hope that February will bring better weather for our students, staff, and families. We are excited to have students back in school! |
