Seventh grader Joe Heimerl took home a blue ribbon for his project called "Storm water Runoff: After the Rain, the Lakes Feel the Pain". Joe also presented his research paper in the form of a power point presentation to a panel of judges. His efforts landed him a Purple Ribbon and he now qualifies for State Competition. Other special awards he received included the Noram/Minnegasco Foundation Award, the NOAA Pulse of the Planet Award, the MN Chapter of American Fisheries book and lure and an award from the American Meterological Society. The public is invited to sit in on the presentation of papers. Science Fair Coordinator Jodi Prchal was amazed at the level of knowledge and effort this young man put into this endeavor. Eighth grader Erica Eischens took home a blue ribbon as her project on the "Effect of Light on Plants" enlightened everyone! Kevin Trettel, also in eighth grade won a blue ribbon for his project on "Electrolysis". The team project put together by Amanda Maruska and Kelsey Weiers, both in eighth grade won a blue ribbon as well for their project entitled "Pavlovian Response". At the High School Level, Stephen Trettel presented a research paper and project called "Propellants Propulsion: The Role of Drift Transport in Asymmetrical Capacitor Thrust Production". He received a top award for Best Physics Project Overall, as well as Best Paper Presentation. He will be representing New Prague in the International Competition! Carl Turner also presented a research paper and project in the Engineering Category. Titled "Designing an Optical Sensor to Easily Decipher the Relative Longevity of High Pressure Sodium Light Through Spectral Analysis". Carl was awarded top honor for the Best Engineering Project and will also head to International Competition in Indianapolis! Congratulations to all of the students on a job well done and more importantly on completing a project that teaches time management, perseverance and science concepts! |
