Dollars for Scholars Phone-A-Thon to be held this weekend
Many volunteers from the New Prague High School class of 2006 will take to the phones to call residents of school District #721 during the first Dollars for Scholars Phone-A-Thon which will take place this weekend, March 18 and 19. Using the Districts mailing list, students themselves will be dialing up potential donators throughout that weekend.
Dollars for Scholars is a non-profit organization consisting of local volunteers who are interested in providing local students with financial assistance to pursue higher education. One-hundred percent of your cash donation will be awarded to New Prague graduates as scholarships and are tax deductible. As the community and schools grow, more students are choosing to continue their education at a post-secondary level. The challenge for the local New Prague Dollars for Scholars to meet this demand requires new and innovative fund development programs. Other communities in the surrounding area have found that the Phone-A-Thon has been very successful for their local school's graduates, and has created many more scholarships to be awarded.
Any size donation is greatly appreciated, however, as an added incentive for every $20.00 donation; your name will be entered in a prize drawing for a flat screen television.
The future goal is to present scholarships to all who apply for one. Enhancing the educational opportunities for our local youth is what Dollars for Scholars is all about. These scholarships are not solely awarded by grade point average or financial status alone; students just simply need to apply. If for some reason you are not contacted during the Phone-A-Thon, but would like to contribute to a local student's college education and participate in the drawing, you may mail a check to: Dollars for Scholars ~ P.O. Box 204 ~ New Prague, Mn ~ 56071 Donations must be recieved by April 16th to be eligable for the drawing which will be held at the Evening of Excellence awards. The winner will be contacted by phone if they are not present.
This year will mark the 100th graduating class from New Prague High School, so what better way to celebrate than to offer more educational opportunities for our local students. Please pick up your phones next weekend, and lets show our kids we care.
