Schoenecker reaches state semifinals

New Prague senior wrestler Jake Schoenecker (28-6) advanced to the class "AA" state wrestling semifinals at 215 pounds Thursday night with a pair of wins. Schoenecker pinned Byron senior Kevin Loge and then he beat Albertville sophomore Kyle Schumm 11-3 to advance. Schoenecker will face Adrian senior Cody Reverts (37-3) in today's semifinal match. The class "AA" semifinals begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The other two wrestlers in the semifinals are Waconia senior Joe Nord (42-0) and Minnewaska senior Alan Lutterman (35-4). Three others compete Senior Eric Olson (152#) and sophomores Travis Rutt (135#) and Caleb Lines (160#) will all be wrestling this morning in the consolation wrestlebacks, which begin at 10 a.m. at in St. Paul. Olson (34-8) will face Deer River senior Dustin Horner (32-3); Rutt (40-4) will face Minnewaska junior Ryan Bouslog (27-8) and Lines (33-9) will face Hinckley senior Dustin Nelson (29-6). Both Rutt and Lines won their opening matches in the tournament before losing in the quarterfinals. The tournament continues through Saturday afternoon in St. Paul. |
