What is the H1N1 Novel Influenza virus and What can we do to help stop the spread of influenza in our school and community? H1N1 is a respiratory illness caused by a virus. Last April this new strain of influenza arrived in the United States as well as many other countries and quickly spread making many people sick. We are seeing cases of H1N1 in Minnesota and we expect to see many more. Influenza is spread when a person with the flue coughs or sneezes. Symptoms of H1N1 include

It is extremely important that we all work together to provide for a safe school and community. Start now by developing a plan for what you will do if you or your family members become sick and start practicing healthy habits. New Prague Area Schools is developing a link on their website to more information on the H1N1 virus. Check it out at www.np.k12.mn.us and click on the H1N1 button. Other websites to learn about this virus are: the Minnesota Department of Health or Centers for Disease Control. You have put the resources where they need to be Thank you on behalf of all staff and students in our schools. We will be having an election on November 3rd for the School Board. Candidates on the ballot will be incumbents Marty Beckius, Don Dvorak and Jerry Walerius. The other candidate is Trista Robischon. There are three positions open. Issues going forward in the school district: I see the following as our biggest challenges as we move forward in the future: Student Achievement Communication, public relations and marketing our school district Managing current and future financial challenges Finally, I would like to add a question and answer section to my monthly columns.
