NPHS 9th Grade Response to Intervention (RTI) Math/Language Arts Program

New Prague Area School's mission is to engage and support everyone in high levels of learning. With that focus, New Prague High School will be implementing a ninth grade Response to Intervention (RTI) program beginning with the 2011-2012 school year. The program looks to provide a better experience for incoming ninth graders and to help with the transition from the middle to high school. Students will receive remediation in math and language arts. This will increase skills and support their efforts in other subject areas. We will select students by using data-driven decision making to place students in the remedial program. There will be three possible interventions used for remediation. One intervention places students in a classroom with low teacher to student ratio. A second intervention allows students to receive additional support outside of the classroom during a boost-up time which will focus on specific skills for twenty minutes, twice a week. The third intervention will take place in the regular education classroom to increase skills. Students selected for these interventions will be required to complete the remediation during the course of the year. By implementing this, we expect to decrease the number of classes failed by incoming ninth grade students and to bring their skills up to grade level.
