New Prague students shine on state reading, math, and science assessments

A look at the results of the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) reading, math, and science scores reveal that New Prague Area School District students continue to outperform their Minnesota peers in proficiency. Our teachers have done a great job of identifying the essential learning, assessing their understanding, and re-teaching until students attain the essential outcomes. These tests provide us an opportunity to judge how well our students are doing in each of these core disciplines. I am very proud of our students and staff for a job well done. The 2012-13 statewide data reflects that: • As a district, 76% of our New Prague students are proficient in science. This is 24% above the state average of 52% proficiency. This ranks New Prague 3rd highest in the state out of 341 school districts. New Prague ranks #1 in science when compared to our nine neighboring school districts. • As a district, 79% of our New Prague students are proficient in math. This is 17% above the state average of 62% proficiency. This ranks New Prague 8th highest in the state out of 341 school districts. New Prague ranks #1 in math when compared to nine neighboring school districts. • As a district, 71% of our New Prague students are proficient in reading. This is 13% above the state average of 58% proficiency. This ranks New Prague 15th highest in the state out of 341 school districts. New Prague ranks #2 in reading when compared to nine neighboring school districts. 2013 MCA III Results The chart below shows how New Prague and its neighboring school districts did on last spring's MCA III assessments in math, reading, and science compared to the state average for proficiency on the standardized tests.
